Chipmunk brunch
Well the world seems to be spinning out of control… and what do we do when that happens? Well depends who you are talking to I guess. If it’s me you are speaking with then WE CREATE BRUNCHES!
It’s my favorite way to express my creativity and make something beautiful for others to enjoy! And since I am low-key (not low-key) obsessed with THE BIRDS PAPAYA, the inspiration for this mini brunch delight came directly from her IG account.
For those of you unfamiliar, Sarah, the owner and creator of TheBirds Papaya universe, has a tiny little picnic table that frequents her instagram stories and upon it, she leaves little treats for a local squirrel in the hopes of bonding with it. It is as adorable and hilarious as it sounds…
SO, when I arrived in Michigan last week and saw a tiny picnic table that my in-laws have for, you guessed it, tiny woodland creatures… I knew what I had to do!! And that is how this little Chipmunk Brunch was born.
THE DESIGN
Now it just so happens that my mother-in-law is a fabulous collector of things. And some of those things happen to be tiny things!! She is also an incredibly talented gardener and has a beautiful flower garden! This made the rustic nature inspired theme an easy one to pick!
I used sand dollars and round leaves for stacked “charger plates”, feathers with sand dollar charm “napkin rings” and thimbles for glasses. I was able to cut and draw some coffee filters to use as the napkins and lucked out with a tiny pitcher and vases for the water jug and centerpieces.
Each vase was filled with freshly picked, teeny tiny flowers and each thimble filled with water!
THE FOOD
I wanted to keep the meal very simple with a fresh green salad, an entree of seeds and the grand finale, a banana nut loaf cake with peanut butter frosting.
THE GUESTS
And now the moment you have all been waiting for… our guests!!!
We had 2 to 4 chipmunk guests, but to be completely honest, they move so quickly it is almost impossible to tell. They don’t have the best table manners, seem to argue quite a bit and I am pretty sure they wouldn’t wear a flower crown regardless of the occasion. But they are cuter than heck and ate just about everything so really, what more could I ask for!!
*Please note that no chipmunks were harmed during this event. In fact they definitely left with full bellies and hopefully happy hearts!
Well, there you have it friends. If 2020 gives you nothing else… at least it gave us this! (To my in-laws, children and friends… thanks for still loving me through it all, it’s a weird time right now.)
